When I got the D3, it was like a dream come true.

It's the camera that I use 99% of the time for my pro photography.

It's fast, rugged (very) and has amazing low light capability.

I regularly shoot at 3200 ASA , when the situation calls for it and am never disappointed.

It give me total confidence that whatever I run into on a shoot, the D3 will handle it.

Honestly, it reinvigorated me and truly makes me look forward to each time I have an opportunity to put it to work.

(note that my D3 has been replaced by the D3s, D3x, and now the D4 - the D3s is shown above)

The D3s adds HD movie capability and a quiet shutter mode as well as other features.

All D3 series cameras have twin CF slots for extended shooting, in camera backup or shooting multiple image formats at the same time.

Megapixels 12.1
Max ASA 102,400!
Max FPS Full Res 9

The D3x doubles the resolution of the D3s, making this a superb camera for studio photographers and fine artists, who want to create the largest, most detailed images possible from this format.

The tradeoff is less ASA sensitivity at the top end and 5 FPS, instead of the D3s' 9FPS.

That being said, great photos can be produced throughout the camera's ASA range.

I was shooting a First Robotics event the other day when another photographer turned to tell me "The D4 just came out".

I told him that he just cost me $5,000.

Nikon has really held the line on pricing their flagship digital cameras.

The D4 doesn't cost much more than the D1x that I bought a million years ago.

The D4 improves upon the D3 series with higher FPS (11) and a higher ASA (204,800).

The D4 has faster auto focus, especially with tele-converters.

The D4 has full HD movie capability with a headphone jack and external microphone jack as well as on screen audio levels.

The D700 gives you the image quality and most of the best features of the D3s at thousands of dollars less.

It's smaller and lighter than the D3s and has features that the D3s doesn't , such as auto d lighting.

A tradeoff is that it's 5FPS and the top ASA is 25,600.

For all but serious sports action or photojournalists, that shouldn't matter much.

This makes a great second body for any pro shooting FX format.

My friends who own the D700 are thrilled with it.
